The Word of God Is…Fire

Week 1: The Word of God is a Mirror

James 1: 22-24
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

Week 2: The Word of God is Bread

Exodus 16:4
4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain BREAD FROM HEAVEN for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota EVERY DAY, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not.

Matthew 6:9-11
9 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our DAILY BREAD.

Week 3: The Word of God is Water

John 7:37-39
37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

Week 4: The Word of God is Air / Spiritual Breath

2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is GIVEN BY INSPIRATION OF GOD, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Peter 1:20-21
20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

Job 33:4
4 The Spirit of God has made me,
And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

Week 5: The Word of God is Sight

John 9:39-41
39 And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.” 40 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, “Are we blind also?” 41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now (or since) you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.

Week 6: The Word of God is Light

Psalm 119:105
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.

Week 7: The Word of God Is Fire!

#1 The Word of God is a Consuming Fire

Hebrews 12:29
29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Jeremiah 20:9
9 Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him,
Nor speak anymore in His name.”
But His Word was in my heart like a Burning Fire
Shut up in my bones;
I was weary of holding it back,
And I could not.

Jeremiah 1:16-19
16 I will utter My judgments
Against them (Israel) concerning all their wickedness,
Because they have forsaken Me,
Burned incense to other gods,
And worshiped the works of their own hands.
17 “Therefore prepare yourself and arise,
And speak to them all that I command you.
Do not be dismayed before their faces,
Lest I dismay you before them.
18 For behold, I have made you this day
A fortified city and an iron pillar,
And bronze walls against the whole land—
Against the kings of Judah,
Against its princes,
Against its priests,
And against the people of the land.
19 They will fight against you,
But they shall not prevail against you.
For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.”

#2 We Must Fan the Flame

2 Timothy 1:1-9
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus, 2 To Timothy, a beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day, 4 greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy, 5 when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. 6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, 9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,

STIR UP THE GIFT OF GOD WHICH IS IN YOU
anazópureó (ah-nah-zo-poo-REH-oh)
to Rekindle or to Fan into Flame the Gift of God that is in you

2 Timothy 4:1-5
1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

#3 The Fire of God Purifies Us

Malachi 3:2-3
2 “But who can endure the day of His coming?
And who can stand when He appears?
For He is like a refiner’s fire
And like launderers’ soap.
3 He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver;
He will purify the sons of Levi,
And purge them as gold and silver,
That they may offer to the Lord
An offering in righteousness.
