Better Ministry: Anointing of the Holy Spirit

We've been in a series for many weeks now called Better Ministry. Better Ministry. And today my plan is to close this series out.

But this is a series that's been based on upon what we are calling the five basic or the five foundational ministries that Jesus says he's come to do in Luke chapter four, as he reads a prophecy from the book of Isaiah. And you guys, if you've been coming here, you guys know this because I've said it each and every week in this series to set up each sermon in this series. But I'm getting ready to say it again. But this is what happened, right? Jesus went to his hometown in Nazareth, and he goes to the synagogue there in Nazareth on the Sabbath day.

And there he preaches on the Sabbath day in their synagogue. Really an eight word sermon that got all the people into a stir, right? It caused a frenzy. But we're going to read that portion of scripture again to set up what we're going to talk about today, and we'll close this thing out. And so go to Luke, chapter 4, verses 16 through 20.

This has been our foundational scripture for this series, these verses here, and we're going to read it again and get into it today. So it says verse 16. So he, Jesus came to Nazareth where he had been brought up, where he was raised, right? And as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read. And he was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah.

That's the same one we got right here in this Bible. Right? And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it is written, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the King, captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. And then it says he closed the book, he gave it back to the attendant and sat down.

And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing. Okay? So we have covered four of the things that Jesus says he's come to do. We covered where Jesus said he come to preach the gospel to the poor.

Right? And we said that the first ministry that Jesus had come to do and the thing that he does is to save. How many know he's in the saving business, Right. How many have received the salvation of the Lord because of the finished work of the cross of Christ? Right.

So about 30 of us in here, praise God, the altar is going to be full today. How many have received the salvation of the Lord through faith in Christ? Okay, all right. Don't be ashamed of the Paul said, I'm not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, for it's the power of God unto salvation. When somebody asks if you saved, say, praise God.

Yeah, that's me. I'm a born again believer. I'm a son, I'm a daughter of the most high God. How many has been saved in the house? Alright, there we go.

Don't be ashamed of it. Don't be ashamed of it. The first ministry come to do salvation is his first ministry. And then in our second week in this series, we talked about these two lines in verse 18 where Jesus said, he sent me to heal the brokenhearted and to set at liberty those who are oppressed. And so in that week we talked about inner emotional healing.

And then a few weeks ago we talked about liberty. Okay, because you said, I've come to proclaim liberty to the captives. And we said, when God speaks, things happen. And whom the Son sets free is free indeed. How many have been set free from some things because of Christ?

All right, yeah, we're getting this thing now. All right. And then the last thing we covered was healing because Jesus said, and recovery of sight to the blind. Because if someone, someone who was blind received their sight, we would say they were healed, they got healing. So we talked about first, we talked about the most important healing we could ever receive.

And that's spiritual healing, right? Having our spiritual eyes and ears and hearts and minds healed and having them open to see, to hear and to receive and understand things spiritually in a spiritual sense. Okay? So that was part one of us talking about Jesus's ministry of healing. And then we also talked about how God, Jesus didn't just pay for one part of our healing, but he paid for every part of our healing, right?

He wants us to be healed in every part, spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically. Isaiah 53, 5 says, he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities. That's spiritual healing. The chastisement of our peace was upon him, right? That's mental and emotional healing.

And then by stripes we are healed. That is physical healing. And so two weeks ago, we talked about the man at the pool of Bethesda, okay, From John, chapter five. And how Jesus healed this man both physically and mentally because he challenged his own mindset, his complacency right there at the porch. And so many will look at this and say, well, Pastor Andrew, what's left?

We said there's five basic, five foundational ministries. We've covered four that Jesus said here. So what's left? Because we've already went through everything he said. And I would say, not so fast, my friends.

We haven't covered everything. There's one line of this statement that we have not actually covered yet. And it's something that Jesus said at the beginning, okay? He says the beginning of verse 18, he says, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me. Okay?

So today, the last ministry of Jesus we're going to talk about is anointing. Anointing, okay? And not just anointing, but the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Because he said, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me. So the Spirit of the Lord's upon him because he's anointed him.

In other words, he was on him and all over him. And I'm going to explain why I can say that and what that means, okay? Through scripture. Don't take my word for it, take his word for it. What, what being anointed really was and how Jesus came to anoint and to baptize all of us with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Okay? He's the baptizer. Alright, so here's my first point. I don't Want to get ahead of myself? Point number one, If Jesus needed the anointing of the Holy Spirit, we need the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Okay, let's make sure we get that. If Jesus needed the anointing of the Holy Spirit, then we need the anointing of the Holy Spirit. So first of all, I need to let you know what the word anoint means in the Greek as it's written right here in Luke. Okay? So the Greek word for anoint right here is krio.

Krio. Okay, it's spelled C H I, but it's krio. And this word in the Greek actually means to rub or to smear with oil. To rub or to smear with oil. And it's not just a little dab of do ya, right?

But it means to smear or to rub with oil thoroughly. In the Hebrew, the common word for anoint is mashak. Mashak, okay. And in the Hebrew, that word, anoint, anoint is many times, most all the time accompanied or paired with this word yatsuk. And that means to pour.

To pour. Okay. The reason I say that is because when we think of anointing someone with oil, right? You've seen it here before. You've probably seen it in your life.

If you've been a part of church, if you've been a believer for any time, you've seen me do it in here. When I pray for people in the altar, you take a little bottle of oil. I got one up here somewhere. Where's it at? Where's my, where's my anointing?

Oh, here it is. It's by the giving box. Lord, just anoint every gift right now in the name of Jesus. Alright, So I keep a bottle of anointing oil up here, right? So I'll get this.

When I pray for people, I'll put some on my hand and then I pray for them on the, on the forehead. Why you do that? Well, the Bible says they anoint the disciples. Anointed people and pray for the sick. James 5 tells us, if anyone's sick among us, let them call the elders of the church.

Let them anoint their head with oil and pray the prayer of faith, right? So that's why we do it, because the Bible says to do it.

But we think a lot of it when we hear the word anoint with oil. We think of it in that sense. You've seen me do it. Okay, Little dab of do ya. Some people I've seen this and I like it.

I might start doing it, but a Lot of people will get someone oil, and when they go to pray for them, they'll do it. And the form of a cross on their forehead, and then they'll pray for them. I like that. I might. Y' all see, if I pray for you and I do the cross, I've got a new thing going.

Okay. All right. So. But. So we think of it like that a lot of times, but in the Greek, it's more than that.

It's more than that. To anoint is to rub and to smear all over. I won't do that to you. You come up here, I'm just like, I'm not going to do that to you. But in the Hebrew, it means to pour.

That's what it means, to pour. And I remember I got to share this memory with you guys. As I was making notes, I thought about this, and I'll never forget this. This is a memory that's etched in my brain. Okay?

There was this one time that there was this great man from right here in a Daresville that came to our house as I was growing up. I was teenager. He came to our house to pray over my mother, who was sick. Okay? Great man.

His name was John Beasley. Great man of God. Pastored a church here in Aredersville for many, many years. He was friends with my father. And yes, he is related to Vic Beasley.

He's his uncle. People hear that name around here, and they're like, oh, Vic Beasley. It was his uncle. Okay? John is with the Lord now.

My mom's with the Lord now. But I remember this Pastor Beasley. He showed up, up at our house one day, and he was on a mission to come pray for my mother again. I'll never forget it. He walked in and he stood there in our living room, and he said, Mrs. Robin, come here.

And he asked my dad, he said, petey, do you have any. Do you have any anointing oil here? My dad's like, oh, yeah, we got an. Oh, they. We had this little shelf in our living room, and my mom kept a bottle of anointing oil.

And I ain't talking. It wasn't like this. It was about three times this size. It was about that tall. It was a big old bottle of annoying oil.

She kept it there. And so Dad's like, yeah, I got some annoying oil. He hands him this bottle, and Mom's standing there in the living room, and so he grabs that bottle, he begins to open it, and Pastor B, he opened it, that bottle, and he didn't Just put a little bit on his finger. He didn't just go, okay, Sister Robin, I'm going to pray for you. But he opened this bottle.

He began to pray. He took that bottle in his right hand, and as he started to pray, he just turned that bottle up. I'm talking about. And began to pour that oil over my mother's head. And I'm telling you, he emptied that entire bottle over her.

And I remember. I was a teenager. I remember now when this was happening. My mom was receiving, and I'm telling you, she hit the floor under the power of the Spirit of God, she began to pray in the Spirit. And she got up from that floor better, right?

She got up better. And there was this puddle of oil in our living room carpet. I'll never forget it. But nobody cared about the puddle of oil because mama got up better, right? But I. Yeah, praise the Lord.

But I remember thinking, when Pastor Beasley was doing this, I remember thinking to myself, what in the world? You know, I'm a teenager. I'm like, this is crazy. And I remember thinking, because I grew up in church, right? I remember thinking, this cat don't know how this is supposed to to be done.

He's confused. But the truth was, I didn't really know or understand what the word anoint actually meant to rub or to smear or to pour out on. Okay? So anyway, let me just show you. In the Old Testament, when people were anointed, they didn't just get a little dab, okay?

This is Genesis 28, verses 18 and 19. This isn't actually a person. This is a stone that was anoint. Anointed, okay? Then Jacob rose early in the morning and took the stone that he had put at his head.

He used it as a pillow. That night, he slept on this stone. He had a dream from God, a divine dream from God. So he woke up next morning, he set it up as a pillar and poured. That's the Hebrew word, Yatsik.

He poured oil on the top of it. And he called the name of the place Bethel, which means house of God. But the name of that city has been located previously. He didn't dab the stone with oil. He poured it all over it.

He anointed it. Okay? He anointed the stone. Exodus, chapter 29, verse 7. This is talking about when Moses would anoint Aaron as priest, right?

It says, and you shall take the anointing oil and pour it on his head and anoint him. When Samuel anointed Saul to be the first king over Israel, first Samuel, chapter 2010, verse one. Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head and kissed him and said, is it not because the Lord has anointed you commander over his inheritance? And so that's all Old Testament. But you fast forward to the New Testament and there's a lot of talk, you know, in church culture now, especially in praise and worship world, about the alabaster box, break open your worship.

We compare our worship to breaking open our alabaster box. There's songs that we sing here, but about that, right, that comes from Scripture. There was a woman who broke open her alabaster box. And so this is in the Gospels, Matthew 26, 6, 13. And when Jesus was in Bethany, at the house of Simon the Leopard, a woman came to him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil.

And she poured it on his head as he sat at the table. But when his disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, why this waste for this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor. But when Jesus was aware of it, he said to them, why do you trouble the woman for she has done a good work for me. For you have the poor with you always, but me you do not have always. For in pouring this fragrant oil on my body.

So started out, it said she poured it on his head, but it covered his body. She poured it out, right? You know, a lot of historians believe that it was a year's wages is what the Bible tells us in another section. And so if it was a year's, that's why they said it's very costly. If it was a year's wages, they think it was at least a 16 ounce bottle of oil that she poured over his head, okay?

And that's why they were tore up. They're like, man, we got a year's salary just poured out right there. And he says, leave her alone. She's poured this over my body. She's done it for.

For my burial, okay? It was a sign of his resurrection. Assuredly, I say to you, whether the gospel, wherever the gospel is preached in the world, this is a strong statement from Jesus. Wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her. My gosh, this is off topic, but let our word worship be something that is talked about from one generation to the next across the globe, right?

Not for us, not for us, but for the glory of his name. If our worship isn't something people talk About God, shake us up and wake us up. Right? Right. Let us.

Let me. Let us pour out worship in such a way that it gets people. People talking. But we don't give a flip about what they say. We care too much about what people think.

People may think our worship's a waste. Why are they waving their hands? Why are they shouting? Why are they doing all that? That's a waste.

That's embarrassing. That's a waste of their pride. That's a waste of their dignity. That's a waste of all this and all that. But I'll say it like, david, let me become more undignified than this.

Your worship is not wasteful if it's going to the Lord. Pour out your spirit, God, on us as we pour out our praise and worship to you. Y' all following me? Y' all with me? Here's my point.

To anoint in a spiritual sense is not like we typically have seen it or thought about. Literally means. I'll say it again. To rub or to smear all over, to be poured out upon. Psalm 133.

It kind of describes this. I closed last week with this scripture after Eli's message on unity. Right? Psalm 133 is just three verses. It says, behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.

It is like the precious oil upon the head. Listen, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. That sounds a lot to me like it's all over him. It's poured out on his head and it's all over him, from his head to his beard to his clothes, every garment. It's like the dew of Hermon descending upon the mountains of Zion.

For the Lord commanded, the blessing lie forevermore. So here's my question for you. Would it be okay with you if Jesus didn't just give you a little dab of the Holy Spirit or just a little taste of the Holy Spirit, but he thoroughly rubbed and smeared and poured out the Holy Spirit all over you.

There's a couple people that are a little nervous. They're like, I don't know, maybe. I don't know if I'm ready for that. And we're going to talk about this because the Holy Spirit, who is God, has got a negative cognitation even in the church world. But we're going to talk about that.

But we got to remember this. Jesus did all that he did through the power of the Holy Spirit. Let me give you a verse that shows that it's not My opinion. This is Acts, chapter 10, verse 38. First, Luke 4, what we just read.

He said, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me. Why? Because he had anointed me me to do. And then he lists out everything. Preach the gospel to the poor, right?

Heal the brokenhearted. So the Spirit of the Lord is upon him and anoint him to do that. This is Acts 10:38. How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. Listen to me as a believer, if you want to go about doing good and healing people, right?

And it's not us that are the healer, it's Christ working in us, right? But if you want to go about doing good and helping people get set free from the oppression of the devil, you're going to need the anointing of the Holy Spirit to do it. Jesus said, these things shall you do and greater. These things I've done, you shall do and greater. But you can't do it all on your own.

You need the anointing of the Holy Spirit, because that's how Jesus did it. All right, I want to explain one more thing, then we'll move on to the next point. Luke, chapter 24, verses 46 through 49. This is Jesus talking. It says, then he said to them, thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day.

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things. Behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you. Okay? But tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.

So Jesus tells his disciples right here. I've done everything that the scripture has said would happen. It has been fulfilled in me. All right? I've been crucified.

I've risen from the dead. I'm getting ready to ascend to the right hand of God. And you guys right here are my witnesses to these things. In other words, I want you to start right here in Jerusalem. And then I want you to go and tell the whole world of the things that you've seen and you heard, the things you've seen when you rise, heard with your ears, handled with your hands those things that you've experienced and saw me do.

I want you to go be my witnesses across the whole world. But I want you to start in Jerusalem. But I don't want you to go anywhere and I don't want you to do anything yet. First I want you to wait and I want you to tarry in Jerusalem, because I'm going to send the promise of my Father. The promise of the Father is our helper, right?

The Holy Spirit, the third person of the triune Godhead, the Father Son, the Holy Spirit, right? And when he comes, he will baptize you and you will be endued with power. So what I want to show you right there is the Greek word for endued. And it's pretty simple to remember because it's n duo P N D U O N duo. And nduo means to be clothed or to be arrayed or covered with clothing, right?

So Jesus is saying, wait until you are clothed till it's on you, all over you. Wait till it's all over you and you're covered by the power of Spirit, because through the power of the Holy Spirit you're going to be able to turn the world upside down with the gospel. And that they did so if being clothed and anointed by the Holy Spirit can do that for us, for the advancement of the kingdom and the advancement of the gospel of Christ. Do you know who hates believers being endued with power from on high?

The Devil. He hates it. He hates it. That's my second point today. The devil hates the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

You know why he hates when the Holy Spirit is allowed to move? Because he can't stop it. He's powerless against it. He's powerless against the power of Almighty God. So if Jesus did what he did through the power of the Holy Spirit, Spirit, and that power he said, is available to us, which I'm about to show you.

And when you walk in the Spirit and you begin to declare freedom to people and healing to those that are oppressed by the devil, just like Jesus did, then don't you think that the devil would try to get us not to talk about the Holy Spirit in church and the power that it is? And don't you think that the devil would try to make us think that any church that preaches it or talks about it or allows the moving of the Holy Spirit is a bunch of cuckoo crazies and they've lost their mind. They're fanaticals, they're hysterical. You don't need to go there. They're woogie.

Oh, they're crazy. They're holy rollers. Don't you think he'd try to get you to believe that a Church that believes in the Holy Spirit is not for you. I've actually been asked many times as the pastor of, even at church, sometimes in a good light, sometimes in a negative light, does Remnant believe in the power and the moving of the Holy Spirit? And my first thought is always, well, the Holy Spirit is God.

So basically you're asking me, do I believe in God and His power and his moving? And the answer is unapologetically, yes. Yes, yes, we do, because His Word gives it to us. This is what he says. It's not my opinion.

It's His Word. And some people ask because they're genuinely scared of it, because people have given the Holy Spirit a bad reputation and people have misused and abused, don't get me wrong, and they got to stand before God with all that, right? But there are people that are genuinely scared of the moving of the Holy Spirit. And they think that churches that allow the moving in the Spirit or praying in the Spirit or speaking in tongues, they think they're crazy folk. But if that was the case, all the apostles and all the disciples and the people you read about in the New Testament are lunatics, because they all did it.

They taught it. They actually wrote letters. Paul wrote us epistles, right? That gives us direction and instruction on how it should be conducted in our gatherings. He gives us instructions on it.

And a lot of churches have grieved and shut out the Holy Spirit because of this negative connotation, this negative reputation, because they're afraid of what people may say or think. And that's why we got a lot of powerless churches because they're absent of the Holy Spirit. And he's not even welcome there.

So let me ask you, who would make up all this negative stuff? Who would make up all this controversy and confusion over the anointing and the baptism of the Holy Spirit, except for the one who hates it and is afraid of it taking over his kingdom of darkness. That would be the devil. So my encouragement to you this morning as your pastor is don't be afraid of the anointing of the Holy Spirit because Jesus was anointed by the Holy Spirit. He said, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me.

And he wants to anoint you, too. So here's my last point. Jesus is the baptizer. He's the baptizer, okay? Now, I haven't gone through to see how many things are in all four gospels, right?

That are all four like something that's in all four gospels, okay? But there's not that many, I can tell you that. But Matthew, Mark and Luke are what we call synoptic gospels. That means they are similar. They're similar gospels, okay?

And they all covered the last year of Jesus's ministry. Now, of course, they cover the birth. And then they'll start out around chapters three, four, or five, and they'll say, after the death of John the Baptist. Which was which. The death of John the Baptist happened two years into Jesus's ministry, John actually writes his gospel.

Many believe it to be dated around 90 AD in the 90 ADS. Okay? And this was after Matthew, Mark and Luke were already written. And he writes things that happened in the first two years of Jesus ministry. That's why you'll find things in the Gospel of John that you don't find in Matthew, Mark, or Luke.

In John chapter two, you have the turning of water into wine. That's the very first miracle that Jesus performed. Right. In John chapter 3, you got the conversation with Nicodemus where John 3:16 came from. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Praise God. God didn't send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. Praise God. Right? You got.

Get that whole conversation. John four, you got the woman at the well. John five, we talked about it. You got the pool of Bethesda. John 6 and 7, most of that.

Most of that is not in Matthew, Mark or Luke. John 8, you got the woman that's caught in adultery. John 9, you got the healing of a blind man. John 10, you got where Jesus says, I am the Good Shepherd. John 11, you got the raising of Lazarus from the dead.

And then you get on right there. You go to John 14, 15, and 16, you got the conversation that Jesus had with his disciples in the upper room. And then John 17, you got the prayer that Jesus prayed in the garden, which is what Eli used last week to speak on. Unity. Right?

Okay. So I don't know for sure everything that's in all four, but I can tell you this. They all four cover the birth, they cover the death, and they cover the resurrection of Christ. Right? And.

And then they all four cover this other thing. Y' all ready for it? The baptism of the Holy Spirit. All four Gospels. There, that's the other thing that all four mentioned.

Okay. And I'm going to read them to you because I want you to see it for yourself. Matthew 3:11, John the Baptist Talking. I indeed baptize you with. This is my point.

Jesus is the baptizer, right? I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. But he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I'm not worthy to carry. He talking about Jesus will baptize you with Holy Spirit and fire. This is one of the ministries of Jesus.

He. Jesus will baptize you. He will immerse you. Okay? And I'm going to say why.

I'm going to tell you. I'm going to give you the definition of baptize here in a moment. It means to immerse. He says he's going to immerse you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Mark 1, verse 18.

I indeed baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy spirit. Luke, chapter 3, verse 16. John answered, saying to all, I indeed baptize you with water. But one mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I'm not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with Holy Spirit and fire.

John 1:33. I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining on him, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the baptizer of Holy Spirit and fire. And people are all afraid of it. It's a gift Jesus wants to give you to empower you.

Okay, now, the word baptize in the Greek is baptizo. Baptizo. And it simply means to emerge, immerse, or to submerge. That's why when we had baptism a few weeks ago, we immerse. We submerge people in water and bring them back up.

I'm buried with Christ. I'm raised to new life in him, right? That's what the word baptized means. But so the way many people defined it for many years and through culture and centuries is that baptizing was like taking a cloth, taking a fabric, and you would dip it, you would immerse it into a dye to change the color of the cloth. Okay?

So this fabric or this cloth would be baptized in dye, and it would completely change the way the cloth or the fabric looked. It changed it. Now, this is what I found very interesting. One of the first times you ever see the word baptizo used in the. The Greek is actually from a Greek poet whose name he was a poet and a physician, and his name was Nicander.

All right? And so this is the early One of the earliest uses of the word baptizo that they can find, he lived in. Nicander lived in about 200 B.C. and he used the word baptizo in a recipe for making pictures. Pickles.

Who likes pickles? I'm praying for y'. All. I don't care for pickles. No, it's all good.

Amanda loves pickles. I don't like them. All right? But this is what Nicander did. He wrote a recipe for making pickles.

And Nicander says, in order to make a pickle, and I quote, the vegetable should first be dipped into boiling water and then baptized. Baptized baptizo in the vinegar solution. Now, watch this, because then he says this, and I think it's very profound. The act of baptizing the vegetable produces a permanent change.

Isn't that cool?

For those who have experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit, you could say the same. You didn't become perfect, but it produced some sort of permanent change in your life. Like, I remember I was a believer, but I remember when I was really baptized in the Spirit. And we talked about this on Pentecost Sunday. Salvation and baptism of spirit are two separate things.

Paul ran into people who'd already come confess Christ in the Book of Acts. And he said, hey, have you received the baptism of the Holy Spirit since you believed they were already saved? And they said, we didn't even know there was a baptism of the Holy Spirit. And Paul says, come here, let me pray for y'. All.

They received it, right? But when I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit in my life, I remember things did change. Now. Temptations didn't go away, but if I gave in to them, I was so grieved inside of me, like, what in the world? And I get emotional talking about it, because I remember there were many times in my life after the baptism of the Holy Spirit that I did grieve the Spirit in my life because I was being tempted by things and everything within me.

The Spirit within me was saying, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. And I chose not to listen. But then I realized, wait, if I listen to that voice, he gives me the power I need overcome. And it has permanently changed my life. I'm not perfect.

I'm far from it. I'm still learning. I'm still growing. Anybody that's been baptized in the Holy Spirit, you know, you're not perfect. You're not perfect, okay?

Because there are some religious people who go out and think they're better than everybody else, right? Because God's given Them gifts and given them abilities and anointings that others may have different gifts and different anointings and they look at other people differently. Well, guess what? They got a big problem with pride. But the baptism of the Holy Spirit does something that changes you from the inside out.

I don't know how to. But it also gives you power. I have zero power. You know, I talk about going to pray for people. Things happen, and people say, hey, can you come pray for this?

It's like, I have. I have no problem going praying for people. I love doing it. It is my life. Manda will tell you that it is fulfillment.

I believe God's called me to that. But I always tell people it has nothing to do with me and everything to do with God. Do you believe? Do you believe? Right?

And so the baptism of the Holy Spirit brings about a permanent change. And the more we listen to his voice, the more, more for me personally, my eyes began to be opened. And they're still being opened. I'm still learning, I'm still growing. I'm still maturing in Christ.

But something happened when I said, Jesus, I can't do this on my own. I don't have the strength and I don't have the power to do this on my own. So will you baptize me with the Holy Spirit and with fire? Will you rub and anoint me thoroughly with your Holy Spirit? Will you clothe me and pour it out on me like I can't contain it?

And guess what? When I was serious, he did it. He did it. This is one of his ministries, the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And when it happens, everything changes.

So my encouragement to you is, don't be afraid of it. Don't be afraid of him. Because the Holy don't be afraid of the Holy Spirit as God. He is God, and he is in perfect unity with the Father and the Son. He is the promise that Jesus gave and said he would sin because he wants to anoint you and clothe you and cover you in every part.

He wants to endue you with power and change your life. Manny, you can come.

I want to try to bring a close to this whole series. And I wanted to tell you the whole reason we have gone over these five foundational ministries of Jesus. Let me tell you why. Because you and I need them.

We all need them. And Jesus is available to give them to us. In other words, he saves us from our sin, from the penalty of sin, right? But he also saves us from the power of sin because he endues us with power if you fall and you make a mistake, you can boldly approach the throne of grace. If you have trauma in your life, something that's happened, and every time you.

You think of it, it brings stress, it brings guilt, it brings shame to you, Jesus can heal that inner hurt. If you need deliverance in certain areas of your life, things you're struggling with, addictions or bondages or strongholds, he's proclaimed liberty over you. He's proclaimed freedom over you. If you need the anointing of the Holy Spirit, he can do it. And I can tell you, I need the anointing, and you need the anointing.

We all need the anointing to be the men and the women of God. He has come called us to be. We cannot do it on our own.

And so for those that think they've made it, oh, I've. I've been. I've had the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I've been anointed. I just want to show you before I close, how you can be anointed repeatedly.

Okay? Remember Acts chapter two? We talked on Pentecost Sunday, several weeks ago. The Holy Spirit came on Acts chapter 2. He told them to go, wait.

They went to the upper room in Jerusalem, and there came a sound as a mighty rushing wind from heaven, right? And it filled the room where they all were, all right? The Holy Spirit came. It was poured out, right? That was Acts chapter two.

It was awesome. God moved in a miraculous way. People thought those people were crazy when the Spirit was poured out on them. People around like, these people are drunk, they crazy. There are all kinds of things, right?

It got people talking, all kinds of stuff. That was Acts chapter two, right? In Acts chapter four, Peter and John are sent to prison. They're arrested. They go to jail for talking about it, for preaching the Gospel.

A little while later, they're released. And then it says, when they're released, they go and find their companions. This is Acts chapter 4, verse 31. And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken, right? Just like in Acts chapter two.

This is a completely different instance, right? The place where they assembled together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. And they spoke the word of God with boldness. These are the same people that got filled in Acts chapter two.

I say that and tell you that today, tell you this, we still need to be filled.

One of my favorite scriptures, and I got a bunch of them, but one of them is Psalm 92:10, the second part of that verse. David says, I have Been anointed with fresh oil. Some people been trying to run on oil you got 30 years ago. I wonder why you feel power.

I want everyone today. You don't have to, but my desire is for everyone today to ask for the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

And I would say, don't say to yourself, well, pastor, I was baptized in the Holy Spirit years ago. You need fresh oil.

Andy can tell you this. He deals with cars, right? If you don't change the oil on your car, your engine is going to go bad after a while. Things start rubbing together. There's friction.

Metal starts coming apart, causes it to get all in the engine, and then boom, your engine explodes, right? You need fresh oil. That's why you got to do oil change in your car. You don't do that. Maybe the Lord's telling somebody, hey, here's a good reminder.

Go change the oil in your car so it don't blow up. Because when it blows up, you'll blame him and he'll be like, you're supposed to change your oil. Come on now. Oh, God, why does this happen? Practical things God tells us to do, you know, just practical things.

I don't even know why I said that. That's for somebody. Receive it. Receive it. Don't let your engine blow up.

Go change the oil. You're 10,000 miles overdue.

But just like we change oil in our engines for our cars, we need fresh oil.

And we've been running on oil we received months or weeks or years ago and wondering why there's so much friction in our life. We need fresh oil.

Would you agree with me that someone's last words are important? And what I mean by that is the last words that someone's going to say before they leave this verse. Would you think that someone's last words are important? Just show me about it. Lifting of your hand, right?

Yeah. I would say someone's last words are very important. A lot of people know this. The Bible I preach with every Sunday. Engraved on this Bible are some words.

It's the last words my mother ever communicated before she left this earth. She wasn't able to talk. She wrote them down. And so these are the last words she ever communicated on this earth. It says, keep praying and believing for a miracle.

Don't ever give up. He's no respecter of persons. God is good all the time. These are the last words she ever wrote. She was in a bad situation.

God is good all the time. Last two words she ever communicated was pray, Andrew. Pray Andrew on some of My hardest, most trying days when I feel overwhelmed and I feel like, man, I don't know that I can do anything else. I feel like there's stuff on every side coming at me. I feel weighed down.

I can look back at that and it'll say, pray. Andrew and I have found encouragement. God is good all the time. Andrew, I found encouragement. I would say someone's last word are pretty important.

Would you agree with me again? I just want to read you the last words that Jesus communicated before he ascended to heaven.

Acts, chapter 1, verses 8 through 11. He says, but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. And you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth. Now, when he spoke these things, while they watched, he was taken up. And a cloud received him out of their sight.

And while they looked steadfastly towards heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel. Angels of the Lord. And they also said, men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus who was taken up from you into heaven will so come in like manner as you saw him go into heaven. He's coming again.

You know, there's an old song that says, behold, he comes riding on the clouds, shining like the sun. When the trumpet sounds. Sounds right. He's coming again. The same way he left the angels declared the same way he left.

He's coming again. He's going to come riding on a cloud and be like, come on, church. Come with me.

But he said the last words, but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. And you shall be my witnesses of me in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, to the ends of the earth. If you want to be a real witness, a real witness for Jesus Christ, be the man of God, the woman of God. He's called you to be and do what he's called you to do, just like his disciples did. You need power.

You can't do it in your own strength. You need power from on high. And that power only comes from the anointing and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. That's why he's called our helper. So I'm asking you, would you ask him?

Ain't nothing I do. It's a. It's a. It's a personal seeking, a personal choice of what you want. I'm asking you, would you ask him to anoint you and baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire and give you fresh oil Today, maybe it's oil you never had before.

Maybe you just need a fresh touch. I want everybody to just stand to your feet.

I know it's a little longer sermon today, but man, it's. It's burning in me. And it's something we need to hear.

We need the anointing of the Holy Spirit. There's so many times that my life, when I didn't have the strength of the power, I felt my help come. There's been so many times when I've been up here. Listen, I'm just. I'll keep it raw and real with you.

There have been so many Sundays over the past 11 years.

We started remnant church. It was, was that April of 2015 in the house. April of 2015, we started downstairs and my in law's house. From that moment to this moment, God has done some incredible things. I mean, we're standing in a, in a testimony.

I've witnessed it. We. That's why singing that song this morning, I'm just like, man, I'm standing in it. I've witnessed it. You're witnessing it.

But there's been so many Sundays. I'm just going to be real with you. That over those 11 years, I didn't feel like getting up here and preaching.

Didn't feel like I had the strength, didn't feel like I had the energy. In, in. In 11 years, I'm not bragging. I'm just telling you. This is how much I love the Lord.

It's how much I love people. I love his house. But in 11 years, we've missed four Sundays. And those were because we both had Covid and we didn't want to make anybody else sick. Sick.

And then one time we took a trip on Sunday and I got to get better about taking trips and resting. I know people's gonna preach to me about it. I hear you. I know, but we missed four Sundays in 11 years. And the reason, real reason is there are times I don't feel like it.

But I never want to miss anything that he's gonna do.

I never wanna. I never, never want to miss someone, encounter him for the first time and it changed your life. I never want to miss someone just be baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire and then walk out of here. Never the same again. It create a permanent change.

I never want to miss that. It's a desire of my heart. I love it more than anything and I want you to experience it. And I love to experience again and again. I pray, Lord, fill me with fresh oil.

Give me Fresh strength. Because like I said, there are some days that I feel like, man, I'm worn out, I'm tired, I'm exhausted, I'm mentally drained, I'm emotionally drained. And I've gotten up here so weak sometimes, even with a bad attitude. But even in my weakness, I would feel my help come. There's been so many times where I don't knew I didn't have it in me, but my help would come.

And the moments that I felt like I couldn't do it and my help came are the best moments in ministry that I've ever seen.

I want the Holy Spirit to endure you with power to cover you from the head to your toes, for you to be arrayed in the power of the Holy Spirit. So on your hardest days, you can move forward. Because it's not by might, it's not by power, but it's by his spirit. And the scripture says, thus saith the Lord. You can't do it on your own.

I want you to bow your heads, close your eyes.

Maybe you hear this morning say, pastor Andrew, I heard you say that you Jesus is in the saving business.

He came to preach the gospel to the poor. He's in the saving business, and I need to be saved. I'm not 100% sure that I'm ready to meet the Lord, to be with him for eternity. I've never really confessed and made him the Lord of my life. If he's in the saving business, I need to be saved.

If that's you, just throw, throw your hand up, put it right back down. I need him to save me. I need him to save me. The good news is he did the work. There's nothing you have to do.

Confess and believe. He did the actual work. You can't do enough to be saved, but you can confess and believe and put your faith in Him. He'll wash you clean. I need to be saved.

If that's you, throw your hand up, right back down.

Maybe you're here and you say, Jesus said he's there. I hear about these ministries that he says he's come to do. The spirit of the Lord is upon him because he's anointed him to heal the brokenhearted, to set at liberty those who are oppressed. And maybe you're dealing with some inner things, Got some things going on emotionally, mentally, internal hurt, damage, some bitterness, some unforgiveness, whatever it is. And you say, I need him to bring healing to that part of my life.

That's you just throw up your hand, put it right back down. I need inner healing. Yeah. Maybe you're here and you say, pastor Andrew, I need some freedom. I'm a believer.

I stand firm in my faith in Christ. But there are some things. There's some strongholds. There are. There's some bondages.

There's some addictions in my life that I know are not pushing me in my relationship towards God. They're pulling me away, and I need those things broken. He's proclaiming liberty over you. If that's you, you just need freedom. Just throw your hand up, put it right back down.

Yeah.

Maybe you're here and you say, hey, I got some physical ailments I need healed of. There's some physical sickness or ailments in my body that I need healed of. And I want to step out in faith and receive that healing today. If that's you, throw your hand up. Yep.

Then last but not least most important, You say, I can't do this on my own anymore. I need the anointing of the Holy Spirit. I need fresh oil. Maybe even never received it. Maybe you just need fresh oil.

You say, I need the anointing of the Holy Spirit. I want to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire. And I want a permanent change in my life because I can't go on doing what I'm doing. That's you. You just need a fresh touch.

Throw your hand up and put it right back down. I need fresh oil. I need fresh oil. Y' all look at me when need fresh oil. Here's the thing.

God does not force himself upon anybody. The greatest gift. I say this all the time. The greatest gift he's ever given us outside of the gift of salvation is our free will. He lets us choose because that's what love does.

Love gives us a choice, right? And we can choose the things of the world or we can choose the things of God.

He's not going to force himself upon you. He's not going to force baptism of Holy Spirit and fire on you. No. But if you want it, he'll give it. He's in the giving.

He's in the giving business. Salvation's a gift. Baptism of Holy Spirit's a gift. And I can't explain when it happens and how it happens to everybody. I won't pretend to do that.

I don't have all the answers. There are some supernatural, spiritual things I don't understand. And I'm not going to be fake and pretend that I do know and give you some kind of falsified answer.

But I can Tell you I've experienced it. And there was a time that I was like, lord, I need it. I need it, I need it. And all of a sudden it didn't. It didn't come to me in a church building.

It came to me in my kitchen when I was 16 years old and I was home, my knees and I was saying, I can't do it. I need you.

He'll meet you where you're at. So if you want it, I would say, come get it. They're going to begin to sing. He raised your hand for anything as they sing would you come
