Oasis: Miracles, Signs, and Wonders

Oasis: a fertile or green area in an arid region (such as a desert)/ something that provides refuge, relief, or pleasant contrast

Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV)
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV)
24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you WERE healed.

The first thing we have access to because the Messiah Jesus has come is strength.

Last week in Isaiah 35 we talked about the first 4 verses and how we can draw strength from Jesus the Messiah.  We learned that there are three practical ways that we can be strengthen through Jesus:

  • strengthening our weak hands through worship to God
  • strengthening and making firm our feeble knees through Prayer
  • Strengthening our sometimes fearful heart by getting His Word in our heart

Psalm 46:1 (NKJV)
1 God Is our Refuge and Strength a very Present Help in time of trouble

The second thing we have access to through Jesus since He came is Miracles, Signs, and Wonders

Isaiah 35:5-6 (NKJV)
5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. 6 Then the lame shall leap like a deer,
And the tongue of the dumb sing……

5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. 6 Then the lame shall leap like a deer,
And the tongue of the dumb sing……

Mark 10:51-52 (NKJV)
51 So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.” 52 Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.

Mark 7:31-35 (NKJV)
31 Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He came through the midst of the region of Decapolis to the Sea of Galilee. 32 Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. 33 And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. 34 Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” 35 Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly.

Luke 5:17-26 (NKJV)
17 Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. 18 Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him. 19 And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus. 20 When He saw their faith, He said to him, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.” 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answered and said to them, “Why are you reasoning in your hearts? 23 Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise up and walk’? 24 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the man who was paralyzed, “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” 25 Immediately he rose up before them, took up what he had been lying on, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. 26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying, “We have seen strange things today!”

#3 Jesus Heals Spiritually

Isaiah says in verses 5 & 6 that the eyes of the blind will be opened, the deaf ears will be unstopped, the lame will leap, and the dumb will speak

This means physically and spiritually because Jesus came to make us whole

Luke 17:11-19 (NKJV)
11 Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. 13 And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. 15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. 17 So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.” (One version says: Made you Whole)

SOZO
That “made you well” statement, is actually just 1 Greek word and it is the Greek word SOZO (Sewed- Zo). This Greek word literally means to be made whole. To be healed: spirit, soul, and body. It also means to be saved from destruction or from one’s enemies. Strongs Concordance says: Messianic deliverance and salvation and this Greek word is in the New Testament 110 times and 93 of those times, it is translated as Saved or Save

Romans 10:13 (NKJV)
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV)
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; (Spiritual Healing) The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, (Mental and Emotional Healing) And by His stripes we are healed. (Physical Healing)
